Disability Rights Awareness Month takes place annually from November 3 to December 3 to promote the human and socio-economic rights of peoples with disabilities by making information available and accessible.
This year’s launch will be held under theme ‘Persons with disabilities – Equal participants in shaping a sustainable future’. As part of the launch, the department will handover an accessible multi-media centre for deaf and blind learners. There will also be a hands-on demonstration on how assistive technology helps people with disabilities to communicate.
In December 2015, Cabinet approved the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which seeks to accelerate transformation and redress existing inequalities among people with disabilities through inclusive programmes.
Government envisions that this can be achieved if all stakeholders work together with government to advance the living conditions of people with disabilities and restore their dignity.
