Two decades into the “New South Africa”, the country has regrettably once again witnessed a horrendous incident of senseless racism and intolerance.
In a video that went viral, two white farmers, Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Martins Jackson from Mpumalanga were caught on video forcing Victor Mlotshwa into a coffin, further threatening to douse him with petrol.
Relating the incident, Mlotshwa said the incident actually took place on the 17th August 2016, but due to the death threats received he refrained from pressing charges criminal charges and feared for his life.
The men caught up with him on the R555 road, they pulled over and started punching and kicking him until he fell to the ground. Afterwards tied his hands with a cable to the tow bar and drove to an isolated area. Mlotshwa was further toured and assaulted for over an hour. The men then forced him in a coffin and one placed a snake into the coffin. The two men, after the video had gone viral turned themselves over to the police. They appeared at the Middleburg Magistrate Court and abandoned their bid for bail due to personal security concerns. ANC, EFF and DA members gathered outside the court condemning the unfortunate incident. The case will be heard in 2017.
